The world's largest single-unit capacity floating offshore wind turbine departed from Tieshan Port in Beihai of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday, bound for a wind farm in neighboring Guangdong Province.

Mounted on a semi-submersible platform, the 16-megawatt wind turbine will arrive at the Yangjiang Qingzhou offshore wind farm on Wednesday morning and begin trial operation in early June after installation and commissioning.

Spearheaded by China Three Gorges Corporation, the world's largest hydropower developer and operator, the ultra-large capacity wind turbine is expected to generate approximately 44.65 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, enough to power 24,000 households.
