Diplomacy remains the only sustainable way to resolve the Lebanon-Israel conflict, a UN spokesperson said at a daily briefing on Tuesday.

According to Stephane Dujarric, chief spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the UN has warned that the situation along the Lebanon-Israel border remains fragile, while security and humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank continue to deteriorate.

The UN calls on relevant parties to de-escalate tensions through diplomatic means and to ensure unimpeded access for humanitarian operations.

"We welcome steps that would end hostilities and suffering on both sides [of the Blue Line]. As we have said before many times, there is no military solution to this conflict. Diplomacy remains the only sustainable way forward," said Dujarric.

Dujarric also said that the UN will continue to urge parties to fully implement Security Council resolutions in order to achieve a permanent ceasefire and long-term solution.

Additionally, the UN said that Lebanon continues to face enormous humanitarian needs. The security situation in the Gaza Strip continues to deteriorate, with a significant surge in recent conflict incidents - the highest level since the ceasefire took effect. Meanwhile, in the West Bank, dozens of Palestinians were killed and nearly 800 others injured in the first quarter of this year.
