Shenzhen is gearing up to play the host city of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2026, with APEC elements reaching every corner of the city in south China's Guangdong Province and various measures taken to promote people-to-people exchanges among APEC member countries.

As the host of the APEC 2026, China will hold the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Shenzhen in November. Under the theme "Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together," the "China Year" of the APEC focuses on openness, innovation, and cooperation to promote regional growth, digital transformation, and green development.

With half a year to go before the event, APEC posters are already put up on major streets and landmark buildings throughout Shenzhen, and the APEC flower bed at the Shenzhen Bay Port has become a popular photo spot.

"As a resident working in Shenzhen, I feel honored. I hope we the citizens of Shenzhen will provide better venue and volunteer services," said Chen Song, a local resident.

The border inspection station at the Shenzhen Bay Port has already optimized volunteer services in inquiry, guidance, and emergency assistance while ensuring professional and efficient customs clearance for foreign travelers.

"We have organized a multilingual service team consisting of young officers with foreign language proficiency and set up guiding posts to help foreign travelers fill in arrival cards online, so as to display Shenzhen's international flair and facilitate communications with foreigners," said Fang Haozhi, an officer of the border inspection station.

During the ongoing May Day holiday from Friday to Tuesday, the Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport is staging a cultural extravaganza featuring performances by artists from APEC member countries, captivating travelers with the charm of diverse cultures in the Asia-Pacific region.

"I'm so honored to be here and represent my country for APEC 2026, and we are happy to show it to you and to all the tourists and Chinese people as well," said Julia, a U.S. performer.

"The year 2026 is the APEC China Year, and Shenzhen will be hosting it. I've been to Shenzhen many times, but each time I come, I love this city even more," said Anna, a Russian performer.

Police in Shenzhen City of south China's Guangdong Province have deployed 24-hour drone patrols around the Shenzhen Sports Center to enhance public safety control during the 2026 Chinese Super League season.

The Shenzhen Xinpengcheng Football Club has officially made the Shenzhen Sports Center its home ground for the 2026 Chinese Super League season. Football matches have attracted more than 10,000 fans per match, leading to intense crowd density and severe traffic congestion, which places immense pressure on security.

Amid the excitement of tens of thousands, the calmest "guards" aren't in the stands, but stationed over 100 meters above, in the sky.

Before a match began, police officer Wang Yiyuan and two teammates would be already deployed with well-defined roles: one would pilot the drones, another would keep an eye on the spectrogram to monitor the drone activity, and the third would coordinate with other ground police via his walkie-talkie.

Just before the end of the second half, a sudden alert for crowd flow popped up at the south square, where a large number of spectators had begun to gather as they leave the site. As this area served as the only passage for leaving the stadium, the crowd pressure could easily lead to a stampede.

From the initial alert to the loudspeaker broadcast and then to the arrival of police reenforcements on the scene, it took Wang and his colleagues just three minutes to complete the communication, and the crowds began to disperse.
