China is accelerating construction of major oil and gas infrastructure projects this year, with nearly 40 national pipelines under way and more than 9,000 kilometers of new lines advancing to strengthen the country's energy network and bolster supply security.

In Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province, the final weld of the Hulin-Changchun natural gas pipeline project passed inspection, marking the completion of operations at the city's interconnection compressor station. The milestone links the Harbin-Shenyang and Changchun-Jilin pipelines with the Hulin-Changchun line, achieving full network interconnection.

"Currently, the main construction of the nine stations along the Hulin-Changchun pipeline has been completed, with the project's overall progress exceeding 90 percent. The entire line is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2026," said Yang Jiyong, manager of the Changchun project branch under the Construction Project Management Company of China Oil and Gas Pipeline Network Corporation (PipeChina).

Alongside the Hulin-Changchun project, three new pipelines that broke ground this year, namely the Wen 23-Anqing gas pipeline, the Jiangsu-Anhui-Henan main pipeline, and the Shandong north trunk, all moving into full construction.

Meanwhile, the key project of the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), the second phase of the Sichuan-to-East Gas Transmission Pipeline, is also gathering pace.

Tunnel excavation and pipeline welding are proceeding simultaneously, with a plan to weld 1,000 kilometers this year.

"Upon completion, second phase of the Sichuan-to-East Gas Transmission Pipeline will open up an eastern transmission corridor for natural gas from the Sichuan Basin, bolster gas supply to the Yangtze River Economic Belt, connect inland gas fields with coastal LNG receiving terminals, improve the national natural gas backbone pipeline network, and significantly enhance supply security and peak-shaving capabilities," said Gao Jun, manager of the Chongqing project branch under PipeChina Construction Project Management Company.

The main line of the Zhundong coal-to-natural gas pipeline, which started construction in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 2025, is the outbound pipeline for China's largest coal-to-natural gas production base and it has completed welding on 118 kilometers.
