Armenia and the European Union (EU) signed a connectivity partnership deal and pledged to strengthen economic and security cooperation at their first-ever summit on Tuesday.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, President of the European Council Antonio Costa, and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen witnessed the signing of the document at the first Armenia-EU Summit the Armenian capital Yerevan.
"From transport to energy and digital networks, it can turn Armenia into a strategic hub at the crossroads of continents," von der Leyen said on social media X, adding that the initiative would connect the EU with the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
According to a joint statement released after the summit, Armenia and the EU reaffirmed their commitment to fostering inclusive growth and enhancing connectivity on the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation.
The statement underlined the importance of bilateral collaboration in such fields as transport, energy and digital.
The EU reiterated its support to Armenia's "Crossroads of Peace" initiative, and both sides agreed that "this shared vision contributes to promoting peace, stability and connectivity in the Black Sea, the South Caucasus and Central Asia regions," said the statement.
The two sides also launched a high-level dialogue on connectivity and a high-level transport dialogue to institutionalize cooperation.
