China is willing to work with the United States to faithfully implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, so that China-U.S. relations can truly stabilize and improve, to better benefit both countries and the whole world, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with a visiting delegation of U.S. senators led by Steve Daines, in Beijing.
Noting the visit is of symbolic significance as it is the first by a bipartisan delegation of senators after U.S. President Donald Trump's assumption of office in 2025, Wang said it is hoped that the U.S. delegation's visit will build new bridges for communication, explore new fields of cooperation, and add new impetus to the steady, sound and sustainable development of China-U.S. relationship.
"China-U.S. relations bear on the well-being of the people in the two countries and the stability of all sectors of the world. China's policy toward the United States is consistent. I have always believed that the two countries should take mutual respect as a major cornerstone, peaceful coexistence as a guideline, and win-win cooperation as a goal, to explore the right way for major countries to get along with each other, and jointly contribute to world peace and stability," Wang said.
Wang said the key is to keep working on bridging perception gaps of each other, urging concerted efforts of both sides to seek "harmony without uniformity" and choose to be partners instead of rivals. China will never take the beaten path of seeking hegemony as its strength grows, he stressed.
China hopes that the United States will view China objectively, understand China rationally, respect China's core interests earnestly, manage differences properly, and join hands to do more major, practical and good things that are beneficial to both countries and the world, as well as to send more positive signals to the world, Wang added.
The U.S. side shared their impressions of the visit and thoughts on U.S.-China relations. The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
"I've watched the remarkable progress that you have made in transforming your economy into now the second largest economy in the world. I very much appreciate the points you just made of the importance of mutual respect, of peaceful cooperation, of stability. We seek the same outcomes," said Daines.
