In Yiwu, Zhejiang Province — the "world's capital of small commodities" — Santing Road night market has become a must-visit destination after dark.
Stretching about 350 meters and home to over 800 stalls, the market is divided into two main sections: daily goods and dining. As Yiwu's oldest night market, it offers everything from trendy seasonal T-shirts to delicate hair clips and necklaces, alongside cuisines from across China and around the globe.
During this year's five-day May Day holiday, Santing Road night market welcomed over 350,000 visitors, with sales revenue nearing 13 million yuan (approximately 1.8 million U.S. dollars) — both hitting record highs.
"Actually it feels very great to be here and to see everyone shopping around, everyone is really happy, enjoying a lot of shopping here. So it is very good," said a foreign visitor.
"In other night markets, there are basically only food stalls or just entertainment. But at this night market, there is everything from food to clothing — so many choices," said a visitor surnamed Lai.
Santing Road night market not only has food and daily goods areas but also regularly hosts various activities.
The market management, in collaboration with local communities, invites residents and tourists to perform on stage. They have also made six types of heartwarming services — including free haircuts and book exchanges — available at the night market, allowing visitors to enjoy a "special bonus" while strolling and snacking.
"We take care that there are unmissable monthly activities and curated seasonal themes at our market, to constantly innovate consumption scenarios. At the same time, we roll out consumer-friendly measures such as lucky draws and coupons, so that everyone can truly experience the unique charm of Yiwu's night market — its international flair and vibrant local atmosphere," said Jiang Wei, deputy general manager of Yiwu Market Development Group.
