The 12th Chinese Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) recently passed the UN combat readiness capability assessment with high standards and all excellent grades, ranking among the top of all troop-contributing countries in the comprehensive evaluation.
The UN combat readiness capability assessment is designed to comprehensively examine the overall capabilities of peacekeeping forces in performing authorized missions and responding to various emergencies.
During the assessment, a seven-member assessment team dispatched by the UNMISS Sector Juba conducted the comprehensive inspection and evaluation of the Chinese peacekeepers' military quality as well as crisis response and civilian protection capabilities.
Covering more than 370 specific items in 11 categories, this assessment comprehensively examined the Chinese peacekeeping battalion's combat readiness mechanism and the Chinese peacekeepers' combat readiness awareness and emergency response capability. Moreover, it provided professional guidance for the contingent to optimize task response procedures and improve mission execution capability in the future. "We have passed the UN combat readiness assessment with excellent grades this time, which has not only thoroughly tested the battalion's combat readiness but also fully demonstrated the solid achievements of our combat-oriented trainings. We will take this as an opportunity to accurately assess the complex and ever-changing security situation, continuously enhance our capability to carry out peacekeeping missions, and contribute more Chinese strength to maintaining peace and stability in the mission area," said Wen Haiyuan, a Chinese peacekeeper.
