The shared optimism among Chinese and Russian youth toward bilateral friendship reflects the high-level relationship between the two countries, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Tuesday.

A recent survey, conducted by the Sino-Russian Friendship, Peace, and Development Committee and released by the Global Opinion Research Center at Renmin University of China, showed that more than 80 percent of young people aged 18 to 35 from the two countries consider the relationship between the two countries to be friendly.

Citing the survey, Guo said that the findings mirror the deep-rooted goodwill between the two peoples and the growing desire among younger generations to strengthen people-to-people exchanges.

"We have noticed the relevant report. The survey results reflect the friendship between the two peoples, particularly the positive willingness of the younger generation to further enhance bilateral exchanges, and also demonstrate the high level of China-Russia relations," Guo said.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to begin his state visit to China today. We are confident that under the strategic guidance of President Xi and President Putin, the ever-lasting friendship between China and Russia will take deeper roots, and the youth of both countries will join hands to gather youthful power and inject vitality into the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era," Guo said.

The European Union is facing the risk of a stagflationary shock as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is driving up energy prices and clouding the economic outlook, European Commissioner for Economy Valdis Dombrovskis said on Monday.

The European Commission's spring 2026 economic forecast, to be released later this week, will see economic growth figures adjusted down and inflation figures up, said Dombrovskis during an interview while attending a meeting of finance ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) in Paris.

With the Strait of Hormuz closed and oil prices staying above 100 U.S. dollars per barrel, fears of stagflation have risen in recent weeks, said Dombrovskis, adding that the margin of action by policymakers is "more limited" now.

The commissioner said it's important that the bloc take temporary, targeted support measures rather than measures that sustain high demand for fossil fuels.

Dombrovskis also described the EU's release of strategic oil reserves as "ongoing," while warning of concerns about shortages in areas such as innovative fuels.

The International Energy Agency Executive Director, Fatih Birol, said on Monday that commercial oil stocks are declining "rapidly", with several weeks of supply left due to the consequences of the conflict in the Middle East.

Europe could face fuel shortages by the end of this month.
