US loses 42 aircraft in Iran: report

The United States lost or suffered damage to 42 aircraft during the military operations against Iran, a report released by the country's Congressional Research Service (CRS) said, citing media reports and statements published by U.S. Department of Defense and Central Command.

The report listed fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, including four F-15E Strike Eagle fighter aircraft, one F-35A Lightning II fighter aircraft, one A-10 Thunderbolt II ground-attack aircraft, seven KC-135 Stratotanker aerial refueling aircraft, one E-3 Sentry airborne early warning-and-control system aircraft, two MC-130J Commando II special operations aircraft, one HH-60W Jolly Green II combat search-and-rescue helicopter, 24 MQ-9 Reaper medium-altitude long-endurance uncrewed aircraft and one MQ-4C Triton high-altitude long-endurance uncrewed aircraft.

The United States and Israel launched large-scale military operations against Iran in late February, and Iran launched counterattacks.

Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.18 percent to 4,162.18 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index was flat, closing at 15,569.98 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices totaled 2.95 trillion yuan (about 431.3 billion U.S. dollars), up 67.2 billion yuan from the previous trading day.

Shares related to semiconductor and optical fiber sectors led the gains, while stocks in the power sector led the loses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.34 percent to close at 3,921.79 points.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 2.31 percent higher at 2,198.87 points.
