More than 20 experts from 10 member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) met in Shanghai on Sunday to discuss how to prevent and treat metabolic diseases through joint efforts.

Key proposals raised during the meeting include setting up a medical training hub, launching an annual academic exchange program, and publishing a white paper.

"Our goal is to establish closer cooperation and mutual support within the SCO framework to improve the well-being of people across all member states. This truly reflects the vision of a health community built on the foundation of a community with a shared future. I am confident that this initiative will further advance our collective goals," said Ning Guang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Ruijin Hospital.

"Although the duration of this event was brief, we have learned a lot from here. This is a vital exchange between our two nations and serves as a continued development of the Belt and Road Initiative," said Sonexay Rajvong, director of Laos Friendship Hospital.

The China-SCO Cooperation Center for Metabolic Diseases, which was inaugurated in February this year, is the first national-level specialized cooperation platform hosted by Shanghai under the SCO framework. It aims to foster collaboration among SCO nations to collectively address and systematically manage the challenges of metabolic diseases, ultimately enhancing the well-being of people across all member states.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday that China stands ready to strengthen mutual support with Azerbaijan in accordance with the consensus of the two heads of state.

While meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, on the sidelines of a United Nations Security Council high-level meeting on upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the UN-centered international system, Wang said that strengthening and developing the China-Azerbaijan relations is not only a political decision of the two heads of state, but also the shared choice of the two peoples.

China is willing to work with Azerbaijan to advance Belt and Road cooperation, share development opportunities, and strengthen multilateral coordination, so as to better support the modernization efforts of both countries, said Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

China will fully support Azerbaijan in its role as the rotating chair of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, Wang said.

For his part, Bayramov said that Azerbaijan highly appreciates the four global initiatives proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and firmly supports China on issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang.

Azerbaijan is willing to elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership with China to a new level, Bayramov said.
