China's Commerce Minister Wang Wentao held talks in Beijing on Wednesday with Germany's Economy and Energy Minister Katherina Reiche, with the two sides agreeing to build a more resilient bilateral trade relationship.
The two ministers also exchanged views on China-Germany and China-Europe economic and trade relations.
Wang said that during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's visit to China from Feb 25 to 26, leaders of the two countries reached important consensus on strengthening strategic communication and upholding openness and cooperation.
He said China's development priorities during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030) are highly aligned with Germany's Industry 4.0 strategy and low-carbon transition goals.
Wang expressed hope that businesses from both sides will seize new opportunities and build a new model of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Reiche said China is Germany's largest trading partner and also one of the country's most important sources of foreign investment.
She said the German government supports free trade and opposes decoupling and supply chain disruption.
Germany is willing to strengthen policy communication with China and build a rules-based economic and trade relationship that is stable, balanced, reliable, and future-oriented, she said.
