Serbia and China reached broad consensus and signed multiple cooperation agreements during Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's state visit to China, a trip that former Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic said has further cemented bilateral ties.
In an interview with China Media Group, Mrkic noted that Chinese investment and cooperation have significantly advanced Serbia's economic and social development, and he looks forward to more tangible outcomes across various sectors to elevate the relationship to a new height.
"What's really important is that our friendship with China keeps developing on a solid footing. That's what real ironclad friendship looks like," he said.
At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Vucic paid a state visit to China from May 24 to 28. On Monday evening, Xi awarded him the Friendship Medal, the highest honorary medal of the People's Republic of China bestowed on foreign nationals.
During Vucic's visit to China, the two sides issued a joint statement on continuously promoting the building of a China-Serbia community with a shared future in the new era.
Mrkic said that China is a crucial partner for Serbia, and the cooperation between the two countries has produced unprecedented outcomes. "China is a crucial country for Serbia. As President Vucic has said, our cooperation with China has brought results we've never seen before. Our GDP has grown significantly," Mrkic said.
"I firmly believe that Serbia and China have a broad future ahead - economically and in many other aspects. The bond between our two countries is deep as has been shown by history, and it will continue to be so in the future," he said.
