U.S. dollar ticks down

The U.S. dollar softened in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, dropped 0.13 percent to 99.909 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.1550 dollars from 1.1528 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound climbed to 1.3388 dollars from 1.3339 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 160.36 Japanese yen, higher than 160.26 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar was little changed against the Swiss franc at 0.7979 franc, and it declined to 1.3952 Canadian dollars from 1.3956 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar increased to 9.4603 Swedish Kronor from 9.4401 Swedish Kronor.
