Li Hongzhong, vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, met a delegation from Germany's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) parliamentary group led by Jens Spahn in Beijing on Monday.
Li, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said China and Germany had reached an important consensus during a February meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and that both sides agreed to further develop bilateral relations.
Li said China was ready to work with Germany to expand exchanges between political parties, legislatures and other sectors, strengthen communication on international affairs, and jointly uphold multilateralism and free trade, while promoting the steady and long-term development of China-Germany and China-EU relations.
Spahn said the CDU parliamentary group was willing to strengthen dialogue with China and promote practical cooperation between the two countries.
The CDU, led by Merz, is the largest party in Germany’s ruling coalition.
