Safe, free passage in the Strait of Hormuz serves the interests of all parties, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Tuesday.

Lin made the remarks at a daily press briefing in response to a query on the first-phase memorandum of understanding reached between Iran and the United States.

"We have noticed that the first-phase memorandum of understanding reached between Iran and the United States, which includes provisions for reopening the strait. The Strait of Hormuz is an international strait used for navigation. Restoring safe and free passage through the strait as soon as possible serves the interests of all parties. China stands ready to maintain communication with relevant countries and the international community on this matter," said Lin.
