Chinese yuan strengthens to 6.8096 against USD Wednesday

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 12 pips to 6.8096 against the U.S. dollar Wednesday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System. In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.

International gold prices inched higher on Tuesday, while silver futures slipped.

As of the close of trading, gold futures for August delivery rose 0.06 percent to settle at 4,354.40 U.S. dollars per ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while silver futures for July delivery dropped 0.24 percent to close at 70.013 dollars per ounce.
