Safeguarding the happiness of every household and bringing the warmth of the Party to the people is the mission of every community worker, said Wu Yaqin after receiving the July 1 Medal, the highest honor in the Communist Party of China (CPC), in Beijing on Wednesday.

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, presented the medal to Wu at a grand ceremony in the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing. The event was part of the celebrations marking the CPC's 105th founding anniversary.

Wu hailed the medal as a supreme honor in her speech at the ceremony.

"General Secretary Xi awarded us the July 1 Medal, a supreme honor. This honor belongs to every CPC member working on all fronts," said Wu.

Wu also said every community worker should bear in mind Xi's instructions on community governance and strive to provide sincere service and assistance.

"The needs of the community are the direction of our efforts. We always bear in mind General Secretary Xi's important instruction that community governance can only be strengthened, not weakened. We uphold the service concept that residents are our family members, striving to provide services that truly touch their hearts," said Wu.

"We offer services such as meal and medicine delivery to the elderly, building a 10-minute elderly assistance service circle to meet the diverse needs of senior citizens. We have established a happiness cooperative, conducting practical skills training, bridging gaps and expanding channels to help residents start businesses and find employment. We have also founded a youth home, providing free tutoring, raising funds from various sources to help more than 100 underprivileged students realize their university dreams," she said.

Wu and seven other model Party members have been honored with the medal this year, after the CPC awarded it to excellent CPC members for the first time in 2021 to celebrate its centenary.

The medal, which features red, gold and white as its main colors, adopts key elements such as the Party emblem and the five-pointed star.
