A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Thursday called for joint efforts across the Taiwan Strait to promote the peaceful and integrated development of cross-Strait relations and create a brighter future for national reunification and rejuvenation.

Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks while commenting on General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping's address at a grand gathering celebrating the 105th founding anniversary of the CPC in Beijing on Wednesday morning.

In the speech, Xi, also the Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, said that resolving the Taiwan question and realizing China's complete reunification is a historic mission and an unshakable commitment for the CPC.

"General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech emphasized adherence to the one-China principle and the '1992 Consensus,' demonstrating sincerity and goodwill in uniting Taiwan compatriots, deepening cross-Strait exchanges, cooperation, and integrated development. It also expressed firm resolve to combat Taiwan separatist forces and oppose external interference, underscoring the strong determination to advance the great cause of national reunification," Zhu said.

"We will thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech, fully carry out the Party's overall strategy for resolving the Taiwan question in the new era, unite Taiwan compatriots, and work together to promote peaceful and integrated development of cross-Strait relations, creating a bright future of national reunification and rejuvenation," Zhu said.

More than 17.77 million travelers passed through Hengqin Port in southern China's Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, which borders Macao, in the first six months of this year, a 27.8 percent increase from the same period last year.

During the same period, the port also recorded 2.21 million vehicle crossings, up 40.6 percent year on year.

Macao-registered single-plate vehicles were a major driver of the increase, accounting for 1.46 million of the total crossings, or 66 percent.

Located at the southern tip of Zhuhai and separated from the Macao Special Administrative Region by a narrow stretch of water, Hengqin has become a core center for personnel exchanges, economic and trade cooperation, and livelihood integration between Guangdong and Macao, as well as a vital gateway for the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone.
