A passenger in southwest China's Yunnan Province got back her backpack containing jewelry worth nearly 30,000 U.S. dollars with the help of police, which she left on a high-speed train during the busy summer travel season.
The passenger, identified as Ms. Wei, got off train D3962 at Kunming Station last week before she realized she had left behind her yellow backpack on the train, in which she put gold and silver jewelry worth more than 200,000 yuan.
Upon receiving her report, a railway police officer on board searched the train and found the backpack on a luggage rack. Police checked the bag with the train conductor and said the jewelry inside matched what Wei described.
The backpack was later delivered to Kunming South Station, where Wei collected it that night.
Lei Xia, a railway police officer with the Nanning Railway Public Security Bureau, advised passengers to check luggage racks, seats and other areas before getting off trains.
"There are many people riding trains during the summer travel rush, so passengers should keep a close eye on small items such as backpacks and handbags. Before getting off the train, be sure to check luggage racks, gaps around your seats and other areas, and make sure you have all your valuables with you. In case something is missing, you should immediately contact the nearest train staff member or railway police officer," Lei said.
