Multiple military helicopters have been sent to the flood-hit Zhenlong Township in Hengzhou City of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, delivering relief supplies by air.
With a permanent population of about 8,000, the township had been trapped as an "isolated island". Hit by continuous heavy rainfall, the entire township was cut off from outside access with no open roads, power, or network services starting from July 5. Water levels at 59 rivers exceeded warning levels at 20:00 on Monday.
To deliver supplies to the hardest-hit areas as quickly as possible, volunteers have worked through the night sorting the aid before loading it onto helicopters.
"When flying through the valley, the helicopter encountered complex obstacles on both sides, and the ground is dotted with villages and farmhouses. So we did our best to find relatively flat areas to deliver the supplies safely," said Zhong Foliang, a pilot.
Since Saturday afternoon, officers and soldiers have carried out 12 flights, delivering a total of 16 tons of supplies.
"In recent days, we have seen officers and soldiers come to our school to distribute and arrange supplies, which gives us a strong sense of security," said He Junjing, a volunteer.
