China's National Meteorological Center on Monday renewed an orange alert for rainstorms and a blue one for Typhoon Bavi, forecasting heavy downpours in multiple regions.
China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
At 08:00 Monday, Bavi, the ninth typhoon of 2026, was located inland in Sixian County, Suzhou City, east China’s Anhui Province. Its maximum peripheral wind speed reached 20 meters per second. The typhoon is expected to move northeastward at 10-15 km/h, with its intensity gradually weakening.
On Tuesday, it is likely to cross the Shandong Peninsula and enter the northern Yellow Sea. After Wednesday, it will transition into an extratropical cyclone.
From 14:00 Monday to 14:00 Tuesday, strong winds of level 6 to 8 are expected over most parts of the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea, waters near the Diaoyu Dao, the sea east of Taiwan, coastal areas of Taiwan Island, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Hangzhou Bay, the Yangtze River estuary, Jiangsu, Shandong and Liaoning.
During the same period, heavy to torrential rain will hit parts of Liaoning, Jilin, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, as well as parts of Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia, Guangdong, Hainan Island and Taiwan Island.
The Ministry of Water Resources had a consultation meeting on Monday morning and issued a red alert for flash floods.
According to the ministry, from 08:00 Monday to 08:00 Tuesday, there is a high probability of flash floods in parts of central and eastern Liaoning Province, eastern and southern Jilin Province, central and southern Gansu Province, eastern Qinghai Province, and western Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Among them, the probability of flash floods in some areas of central and eastern Liaoning and eastern and southern Jilin is very high, prompting a red alert.
