Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy on Monday said the regional organization seeks to strengthen its partnership with China in the fields of economy, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.
In his first meeting with journalists since taking office on July 1 after being unanimously appointed to a five-year term, Fahmy described the choice to engage with China as a choice for the future.
"I believe we need to continue expanding and deepening China-Arab relations. Today, China-Arab relations extend far beyond energy trade and market sales to encompass high-tech cooperation and rich, diverse people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Developing relations with China is investing in the future," he said.
On regional issues, Fahmy underscored that sovereignty and security of Arab states are inviolable red lines. He said the Palestinian cause would remain the central issue for the Arab world.
The secretary-general said that protecting the Red Sea, safeguarding energy security and ensuring resilient supply chains would also feature prominently on the organization's agenda.
