The U.S. military on Wednesday conducted a new round of strikes against Iran, U.S. Central Command said.

"At 3 p.m. ET (1900 GMT), U.S. forces launched operations for a second wave of strikes today against Iran," the command wrote in a post on X. "The strikes are targeting Iranian military capabilities used to threaten vessels freely transiting through the Strait of Hormuz."

Earlier on Wednesday, the command said that it had begun launching a wave of strikes against Iran at 6 a.m. Eastern Time (1000 GMT). During the 90-minute wave, the forces launched precision munitions against coastal defense systems and cruise missile storage and launch sites on Greater Tunb Island.

On Tuesday, the United States conducted a series of strikes against Iran after resuming a naval blockade of its ports in the strait.

Late Tuesday, the U.S. military said it had hit dozens of military targets, including missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, and coastal defense systems, near the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian coastal areas in strikes lasting seven hours.

An auxiliary police officer in Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning Province leapt into waist‑deep floodwaters on Monday, rescuing a resident from drowning within seconds as heavy rainfall inundated the city.

The incident took place in Gaokan Subdistrict of Hunnan District, a community with 52 buildings and nearly 3,000 households. As waters rose and the flood control situation grew critical, public security and fire departments launched emergency rescue and evacuation efforts, supported by volunteers using loaders to transfer residents.

Auxiliary police officer Sun Peng of the fifth squadron of the Hunnan Brigade of the Traffic Management Detachment joined fellow officers in rescuing stranded residents. Recounting the evacuation, he said some were trapped at home while others tried to escape flooded buildings.

"Some were trapped at home, and some were trying to escape flooded buildings. We immediately lifted the stranded residents onto the loader bucket right where they were. We leveled the bucket and brought the residents up," Sun said.

As Sun assisted with the evacuation, a woman suddenly lost her balance and plunged into the water.

"That lady probably lost her balance and slipped, falling into the water. When I turned around, I saw that she was in a state where she couldn't stand up on her own, because she was already flailing her arms in panic in the water," he said.

Sun sprang into action, diving into the waist‑deep water to pull the woman to safety.

"I was about four body lengths away from her. If I jumped in, I would have to wade through the strong current, which would take three to four seconds. But if I dived forward, I could reach her in one go. I used my arm to support her head and lift her up. I didn't hold her, otherwise we might both have drowned. I grabbed the back of her collar. After she stood up, she held onto my waist, and we got to safety smoothly," Sun said.

In a video recorded by a witness, Sun completed rescue process in just a few seconds.

"He didn't hesitate at all. I don't think even a second passed before he jumped straight in. I think he's truly great, I'm deeply moved, and he is so selfless," the witness Ji Dajuan said.

"It was an emergency, and there was no time to think, because every mouthful of water she swallowed would endanger her life. At that moment, I only thought that I must save her, because that's why we came here in the first place, to rescue the people in need," Sun said.

By evening, all ground‑floor residents and those needing urgent evacuation had been safely transferred, as floodwaters in the community began to recede.
