The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) announced that visitor arrivals for June totalled 3.72 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 7%. Cumulatively, Hong Kong received about 26.71 million visitors from January to June 2026, a 13% increase from the same period last year. Among these, arrivals from the Chinese Mainland accounted for 20.56 million, while non-Chinese Mainland visitors totalled 6.16 million, representing year-on-year increases of 16% and 5% respectively.

Visitor arrivals continued to rise throughout the first half of the year. Long-haul markets maintained stable overall performance, with arrivals from France, Canada, Australia and other long-haul markets each recording year-on-year growth of 20% or more. For short-haul markets, fuel costs prompted certain airlines to reduce flight capacity, while the depreciation of currencies in these markets against the Hong Kong dollar dampened travel intention, putting pressure on visitor arrivals from the markets concerned.
In the MICE tourism sector,the 108th Lions International Convention and LEAP East, a flagship technology exhibition, were recently concluded successfully in Hong Kong. LEAP East has also committed to staging the event exclusively in Hong Kong for the next three years, underscoring the city’s strength as the World’s Meeting Place. In summary, more than 100 large-scale MICE events were held in the city during the first half of 2026.From January to May, overnight MICE visitor arrivals increased by 12% year-on-year.

Looking ahead, Hong Kong is set to host a broader array of international conventions and exhibitions in the second half of 2026. These events will span diverse fields including medical science, innovation and technology, finance and insurance, and sports. They are expected to attract more high value-added overnight visitors and their families to Hong Kong, boosting tourism spending.
To attract visitors from around the world, HKTB has also launched its new global campaign “Only in Hong Kong.” It will continue to stage mega events and work closely with the tourism and related sectors to encourage visitors to stay longer in Hong Kong, injecting greater momentum into the economy.

Starting on 17 October and spanning three consecutive Saturdays, popular tourism districts including Central, Kai Tak, Lan Kwai Fong, Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui will come alive with Halloween cosplay street parties featuring a wide array of programmes, including electronic music parties, cosplay carnivals, interactive ghost performances and immersive experiences. Blending classic Halloween elements with popular anime and movie characters, contemporary art and distinctive local culture such as Hong Kong’s iconic red minibuses and Cantopop, the events will offer a uniquely Hong Kong Halloween experience. The citywide festivities will culminate on Halloween night, 31 October, inviting locals and visitors alike to join in the fun across the city.

Running from now until 1 November, the event unlocks four thrilling scare experiences and a packed line-up of unmissable Halloween entertainment. Highlights include a landmark collaboration with “Under the Castle”, an original intellectual property (IP) created by internationally renowned artist Jackson Wang, delivering an immersive, multi-sensory horror experience. Visitors can also enjoy themed dining, limited-edition merchandise, and a series of interactive activities. Open-Top Sightseeing Buses and “Ding Ding” Specially Open for Halloween — Free Rides for Festively Dressed Visitors
The “Hong Kong Halloween Month” festive experience will further extend across the city as HKTB has teamed up with Citybus and Hong Kong Tramways to offer complimentary Halloween night rides, allowing visitors to soak up the atmosphere and capture memorable photos along the way.

Citybus will launch a Halloween-themed open-top sightseeing bus route on three Saturday evenings — 17, 24 and 31 October — calling at major festive hotspots on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon, including Statue Square in Central, Langham Place in Mong Kok, Kai Tak Sports Park, Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Lan Kwai Fong. Visitors who turn up in creative Halloween costumes can ride for free and take in the city’s lively Halloween atmosphere from a whole new perspective.
Meanwhile, the long-established Hong Kong Tramways will also transform two themed trams into Halloween party trams, running between Causeway Bay and Sheung Wan (Western Market) on the same three Saturday evenings. Normally reserved for private hire, the party trams will be specially opened to the public this Halloween. Visitors dressed in festive attire can hop on board free of charge and enjoy Hong Kong’s night scenery as part of a one-of-a-kind Halloween “Ding Ding” tram experience.
