Argentine fans who gathered in the capital Buenos Aires to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final could barely contain their emotions as their team came from behind to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory over England on Wednesday and book their place in Sunday's showpiece final.
The atmosphere was electric as supporters gathered in public squares and viewing areas to witness another thrilling match which saw the team trail England early in the second half before hitting back with two late goals after they piled the pressure on their opponents.
A long-range strike from Enzo Fernandez drew Argentina level before Lautaro Martinez headed in a cross from the team's inspirational captain and play-maker Lionel Messi as the pulsating encounter headed into added time.
Crowds erupted in cheers, tears, and embraced each other as the final whistle sounded, confirming Argentina will have another shot at glory as they now face Spain on Sunday.
"Honestly, it was just incredible. This is a unique moment for Argentina," said one fan.
"We are extremely excited. Very happy, very joyful," another fan said.
"The first half and the second half were incredibly tense. Then came the real joy," said a fan who described the emotional rollercoaster of the match.
"It was amazing. I went completely crazy. I almost cried," a young fan said.
"I hugged everyone around me. I cried. This feeling is impossible to describe. This is football. This is passion," said another young fan, clearly overwhelmed.
Argentina will seek to defend the title it won in Qatar four years ago when it faces Spain in the final at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.
Sunday's final will mark the conclusion of the biggest ever edition of the FIFA World Cup, with a record 48 teams having participated and games being played across three host nations for the first time, with matches held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
