China aims to basically complete the building of an integrated eco-environmental monitoring network by 2030, according to a recently released plan on improving eco-environmental monitoring during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).
The plan, jointly issued by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the National Development and Reform Commission, targets notable progress in building a modern eco-environmental monitoring system by 2030 and lays out five key tasks and six major projects for this period.
Aside from building an integrated network, China also aims to strengthen early warning and monitoring capabilities for new pollutants, heavy metals and ecological hazards, and pave the way for basically establishing a modernized monitoring system by 2035, with eco-environmental monitoring capabilities reaching an internationally advanced level.
