China is deeply concerned about the escalation of the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region and related parties should stop acts of hostilities, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday.

"China is deeply concerned about the escalation of the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region. Regional countries’ sovereignty and security as well as territorial integrity should be respected. The results of the negotiations did not come easily, and the return of war serves no one's interests. The parties involved should remain calm and exercise restraint, stop acts of hostilities to resume contact and dialogue, and stand for resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means, so as to achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire at an early date," said the spokesman at a regular press conference.
