EU fuel prices rise for 3rd consecutive month

Prices of fuels and lubricants for personal transport in the European Union (EU) increased by 13.7 percent in June compared with the same month of last year, data from statistical office Eurostat showed on Wednesday.

While the figure represents a slight drop compared with a 20.8 percent rise in April and a 20.7 percent rise in May, it still marks double-digit growth for a third consecutive month.

Data also showed that all 27 EU member states recorded month-on-month increases in fuel and lubricant prices in June, though the pace of growth eased in most countries compared with the previous month.

Analysts believe that a combination of factors, including high volatility in international energy markets and lingering geopolitical tensions, will continue to exert upward pressure on fuel prices across the continent.
