Hong Kong, China Equestrian Team to Compete at FEI World Championships in Aachen, Fielding Riders in Show Jumping and Para Dressage

The Equestrian Federation of Hong Kong, China (EFHKC) and The Hong Kong Jockey Club (the Club) today (27 July) announced that four horse-and-rider combinations will represent Hong Kong, China at the 2026 FEI World Championships in Aachen, Germany, from 11 to 23 August 2026. The team will compete in the show jumping individual competition and the para dressage individual and team competitions.

This marks the third appearance of Hong Kong, China's equestrian team at the prestigious global championships. The representatives from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Para Equestrian Squad are: Patrick Lam for Show Jumping, Fleur Schrader, Timothy Tsang, and Louie Lam for Para Dressage.

All athletes are supported under the Hong Kong Equestrian Performance Plan (HKEPP), a collaboration between the EFHKC and the Club.

Notably, the four representatives enjoyed considerable success at the FEI Asian Championships held in Pattaya, Thailand, last November, where the Hong Kong, China team secured a total of seven medals to finish second in the medal table. The four riders contributed six of those medals, including silver in the Para Dressage Team competition (Fleur Schrader, Timothy Tsang and Louie Lam); bronze in the Para Dressage Individual Freestyle and bronze in the Para Dressage Individual competition (Fleur Schrader); bronze in the Show Jumping Team competition and bronze in the Eventing Team competition (Patrick Lam); and silver in the Eventing Individual competition (Patrick Lam).

For each of the athletes, the World Championships represent a meaningful opportunity to learn and exchange with the world's leading riders and horses, gaining experience that will contribute to the long-term development of equestrian sport in Hong Kong, China.

Fleur Schrader, will be making her second appearance at the World Championships. Reflecting on the occasion, she said: "I'm delighted to be competing again. Winning medals at last year's Asian Championships was a significant milestone for me, and this time I will be competing against some of the world's best riders. Just to be able to compete alongside such talented athletes is a precious opportunity, and I'll do my best while also learning as much as I can from them."

Her teammate Timothy Tsang, who will be making his third appearance at the championships, said: "I feel extremely fortunate to be participating for a third time. I will give it my all, enjoy this special occasion and do my utmost to deliver a strong performance for Hong Kong, China."

Making his FEI World Championships debut, Louie Lam shared: " As a secondary school student, I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to represent Hong Kong, China at the World Equestrian Championships — it truly feels like a dream! Equestrian sport has not only enabled me to overcome physical challenges but has also opened doors to the world and allowed me to pursue a fulfilling journey. I am grateful to the HKJC for its continued support, which has enabled me to train overseas and pursue my equestrian dreams. I would also like to thank the Equestrian Federation of Hong Kong, China for giving my teammates and me the opportunity to represent Hong Kong, China."

Patrick Lam, Hong Kong's sole representative in show jumping, acknowledged the calibre of the upcoming competition: "The FEI World Championships brings together the very best riders and horses from around the world. Both the level of difficulty and the standard of competition are higher than those of the Asian Games. I hope to gain valuable experience and further develop my partnership with my horse through competing at this level. We will give our best and strive to perform to our full potential."

The Hong Kong, China equestrian team will be led by Chef d’Equipe Corinne Bracken, who also serves as the Club’s HKEPP Performance Manager. The team will be supported by dedicated professionals including coaches, grooms, veterinarians, farriers and physiotherapists, all provided by the Jockey Club.

Young people are a vital force for societal progress. To enhance upward social mobility among youth, and in line with the goals set out in the Government’s Youth Development Blueprint, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust launched JC YUP in 2025 with a donation of over HK$440 million. The project’s innovative strategy provides targeted interventions at the three critical development junctures in young people’s transition from school to work. It supports young people in building a sense of pride, broadening their career horizons and laying a solid foundation for a positive career trajectory as they begin their working lives.

To highlight the proud moments of young people participating in the project, the “Say YUP! Proud Moment Showcase” was held today (17 July), bringing together students, school representatives and NGO partners to share their experiences, learning journeys from self-initiated challenges and achievements from the past year. Officiating at the opening ceremony were Edward Yau, JC YUP Advisory Committee Convenor; and Winnie Ying, Head of Charities (Education & Youth Cluster) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Speaking at the ceremony, Winnie Ying noted that nurturing children and youth in families is one of the priority areas of the Club’s charities strategy, and the Club supports a wide array of youth activities and services in the community. Through JC YUP, the Club hopes to provide targeted interventions at three critical stages of youth development and identify effective evidence-based approaches that enable community resources to be deployed in a more targeted manner and achieve sustainable impact.

This ultimately helps young people establish positive development trajectories and creates greater opportunities for upward mobility over the long term. She added that she hopes the unique proud moments created by young people through the project become a driving force in their growth journey. Also at the event, Edward Yau shared his personal experiences to encourage young people to build the confidence to challenge themselves and explore life’s limitless possibilities.

JC YUP is one of the five youth development initiatives supported by the Club's Charities Trust under a HK$1.4 billion commitment announced in celebration of the Club's 140th anniversary last year. Collaborating with 25 partners, including schools, NGOs, universities and the business sector, the five-year JC YUP project adopts an adaptive intervention design to provide individualised and timely support according to each young person’s development needs and trajectory, as well as the rapidly changing environment.

The first stage of the project enables Form 1 students to create “Proud Moments” through self-initiated challenges, which build confidence and a sense of pride. The second stage of the project provides different types of workplace experience for young people to understand multiple pathways and various future job roles. The third stage of the project is a two-year “Professional Traineeship” programme for young people entering the workforce, creating a new progression pathway connecting school and theworkplace. In addition to donations, the Club’s Human Resources Department supported the project by organising a one-week career exploration and internship programme last month for five Form 4 students from JC YUP participating schools. Hosted by various divisions across the Club, the students gained first-hand exposure to a wide range of functions, workplace environments and career pathways.

Over the years, the Club has initiated and supported a wide range of programmes that empower young people to realise their potential and contribute as active citizens. In addition to CLAP@JC, which has uplifted the professional standards and service quality of career and life development education and services, 21C@JC, which has transformed youth service in the digital era, and JC LevelMind, which provides “Always On” mental wellbeing support services, the Club has supported the HKSAR Government’s annual youthfest@HK since its launch three years ago, which features a wide range of activities designed to bring young people together and to inspire them to realise a hopeful future. The Club has also supported the HKSAR Government’s Strive and Rise Programme for over three consecutive years. The programme helps young people from underprivileged backgrounds broaden their horizons, strengthen their self-confidence and set goals for the future.
