The ongoing state visit by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini will inject new impetus into the continued advancement of China-Slovakia relations, Chinese President Xi Jinping said when holding talks with the Slovak leader at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Tuesday.

"Mr. President, as a veteran Slovak statesman, you have over the years steadfastly championed friendship with China and made significant contributions to the development of China-Slovakia relations. I am confident that your current visit will inject new impetus into the continued advancement of China-Slovakia relations. The Chinese side stands ready to work with the Slovak side to forge a China-Slovakia strategic partnership based on mutual respect and trust, equality and mutual benefit, and stability and resilience, so as to bring greater benefits to the people of both countries," Xi said.

Pellegrini arrived in Beijing Monday afternoon to begin his three-day state visit to China at the invitation of Xi. This is Pellegrini's first visit to China since he took office as Slovak president in 2024.
