China's logistics sector saw steady growth in the first half of the year, with both the total revenue and the prosperity index registering increase. The total revenue of the logistics sector in the first half of the year reached 7.2 trillion yuan (around 1.06 trillion U.S. dollars), up 4.7 percent year on year, while the index tracking the country's logistics market, an indicator of economic vitality, came in at 49.9 percent, 0.3 percentage point higher than that in the first quarter. "In the first half of the year, the logistics sector registered steady progress, and structural highlights continued to increase. The supply structure actively adapted to changes in market demand, effectively supporting steady operation of the industrial chain and supply chain," said Ma Zengrong, vice president and secretary general of the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing. The national railway system in the six-month period sent 2.015 billion tonnes of cargo, representing a year-on-year increase of 1.8 percent. Meanwhile, the international logistics capacity continued to expand and upgrade in the six-month period, with the China-Europe Railway Express operating 11,178 cross-border trips, a year-on-year increase of 20 percent, to 236 cities in 26 European countries, setting a new record for the corresponding period in history. In terms of air logistics, the civil aviation sector completed the transportation of 5.073 million tons of cargoes in the first six months, a year-on-year increase of 6.0 percent. In particular, the volume of international cargo and mail transportation was 2.32 million tons, up 13.9 percent year on year.
