China and the European Union (EU) have agreed to hold the second meeting of the China-EU trade and investment consultation mechanism this autumn, said He Yadong, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce at a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday.
The first meeting between China and the EU under the mechanism was held in Brussels, Belgium, on June 29.
"At the first meeting under the China-EU trade and investment consultation mechanism, both sides reached a consensus on the new positioning of a stable and balanced key trading partnership, and reached a preliminary agreement that the second meeting of the consultation mechanism will be held this autumn. Over the past month, we have been actively implementing the outcomes of the first meeting and making full preparations for the second. Internally, we conducted intensive coordination, while externally, we maintained high-frequency and multi-level consultations," He said.
"The work teams of both sides have held more than 20 consultations, and the four workstreams have conducted in-depth and professional exchanges on each other's economic and trade concerns. I'd like to stress that China is willing to continue to maintain high-frequency communication with the EU, respect each other and work with the EU in the same direction, so as to explore practical and feasible solutions to each other's concerns in the economic and trade field, promote balanced and positive development of bilateral trade, and maintain the stability and balance of the China-EU key trading partnership," he said.
