Iran's IRGC launches strike on U.S. air base in Jordan

The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it struck a U.S. military base in Jordan on Thursday morning and destroyed three F-35 fighter jets, in retaliation for a large-scale U.S. attack on Iran earlier that day.

The IRGC said in a statement that at dawn in the day, the United States launched an airstrike on Iran using its military base, which hit two houses on Iran's Qeshm Island, killing a family of three including a child, and injuring two other children.

The statement said that in response, the IRGC aerospace force launched several ballistic missiles targeting the tarmac and maintenance hangars for U.S. F-35 fighter jets at a U.S. military base in Azraq, Jordan, on Thursday morning. Three F-35 aircraft were completely destroyed, and three others were severely damaged.

The attack also resulted in the deaths of several enemy officers, technicians, and maintenance personnel, said the statement.

Israel's Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure announced on Thursday that the price of unleaded 95-octane gasoline will rise 8.2 percent to 8.09 shekels (about 2.63 U.S. dollars) per liter, effective on Sunday, marking the highest level in nearly 14 years.

The new price, up from 7.48 shekels (2.44 dollars), stands just below the record 8.25 shekels set in September 2012, according to ministry data. By contrast, the lowest price in recent years was 4.79 shekels in May 2020.

The ministry attributed the surge to continued volatility in global energy markets, citing sharp rises in international gasoline prices amid higher crude oil costs and persistent supply concerns.

It noted that the recent strengthening of the dollar also contributed to the rise in fuel prices in Israel.
