Gold, silver futures rise on Friday

International gold and silver prices closed higher on Friday.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold futures for December delivery rose 2.32 percent to settle at 4,399.70 U.S. dollars per ounce, while silver futures for September delivery gained 3.07 percent to close at 63.499 dollars per ounce.

The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.39 percent to 99.539 at 15:00. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.1564 dollars from 1.1524 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was up to 1.3499 dollars from 1.3457 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.55 Japanese yen, lower than 158.33 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar lost to 0.8076 Swiss francs from 0.8122 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.3937 Canadian dollars from 1.4014 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 9.4701 Swedish kronor from 9.5068 Swedish kronor.
