Thailand’s Minister of Public Health Pattana Promphat said mental health teams have been deployed to comfort families after a deadly school shooting in Nonthaburi province Friday.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Friday afternoon that eight people were confirmed dead, including the gunman and his grandparents, and over 30 people were injured, with nine in critical condition, as a gunman opened fire at a school and home in Nonthaburi earlier the day.
Local police were notified around 10:00 local time after the gunman opened fire at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the Bang Kruai district.
The health minister said Thai authorities were deeply saddened by the tragedy, adding that he had spoken with the victims' families and mobilized support for them.
"All the staff and the government are very sorry and feel sad about what happened. I have talked with the parents of the victims. Most of the victims are children and their parents are in [shock]. I believe that it takes time to recover, both for physical and also mental health. And I already put the department of mental health into action, sending the staff, 60 of them, which are about 16 teams. 60 of the people go into each house and each of the families who got affected from this situation," he said.
