China's 2026 summer movie season has raked in 8.5 billion yuan (about 1.26 billion U.S. dollars) in total ticket sales including presales, with daily box office staying above 100 million yuan for 30 consecutive days.
Total admissions have surpassed 233 million across more than 30.41 million screenings during the summer movie season running from June 1 to August 31. The sports comedy "Kung Fu Soccer", the animated comedy-adventure "All Wishes Come True" and the superhero film "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" lead the chart, together accounting for nearly 60 percent of the season's haul.
Analysts said that China's ultra‑large market gravity and increasingly rich offline consumption scenes continue to pull foreign capital deeper into its film supply chain, making the country not only a box office powerhouse but also a global hub for film investment and distribution.
"In 2025, China's full-year box office exceeded 51.5 billion yuan. The country has 93,000 screens, and annual admissions reached 1.24 billion, all ranking at the very top globally. This market is, looking around the world today, probably the one with the fastest growth rate and the largest incremental volume," said Wu Xuchu, vice chairman of KPMG China.
"The consumption multiplier for film is about 15.77 times, meaning one yuan spent on a ticket ultimately circulates into roughly 15.77 yuan of total economic activity. Behind a single movie ticket sits dining, entertainment, merchandise, derivatives, all kinds of peripheral spend. For international film studios, that means a complete commercial loop throughout the IP development cycle," Wu said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Sunday that Israel rejects a 15-point Gaza peace roadmap plan presented by the U.S.-led "Board of Peace," maintaining that Israeli forces will not withdraw until Hamas is fully disarmed.
The announcement marks Israel's first official and straightforward rejection of the plan.
Netanyahu told the weekly cabinet meeting that Israeli forces, which Israeli officials had previously estimated control about 70 percent of Gaza, will continue to carry out attacks in the enclave to "thwart threats."
"When I say disarming Hamas, I mean the heavy weapons, the less heavy weapons -- all weapons," Netanyahu said.
Israel is still in talks with the United States about the document of the plan, he said. "They have ideas, some of which are acceptable to us and some of which are not, and we know how to stand our ground on these matters."
The plan was drafted in May by Nickolay Mladenov, "high representative for Gaza" of the "Board of Peace," and officially announced by U.S. President Donald Trump in late July, who said back then the board had reached an agreement on the "complete disarmament" of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza.
A day after Trump's announcement, Hamas said it had agreed to the "latest version of the roadmap" for the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement after "fierce" negotiations, but conditioned weaponry arrangements on a complete halt to "aggression," Israeli withdrawal from the enclave, and progress on reconstruction.
Since a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel came into effect in October 2025, Israeli attacks have killed more than 1,250 people and injured over 4,100 others in Gaza, according to Gaza-based health authorities.
