Typhoon Dolphin triggers Level-III flood emergency response in Suzhou

Authorities in Suzhou City, east China's Jiangsu Province activated a Level-III emergency flood response on Monday morning as Typhoon Dolphin continued to lash the city with heavy downpours.

According to local meteorological department, Suzhou will continue to experience significant rainfall from Monday through Wednesday, with maximum wind gusts reaching up to 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale. The city is expected to see prominent short-duration heavy downpours, and the risk of rising water levels in rivers and lakes remains high.

Typhoon Dolphin made landfall at Yuhuan of Taizhou City, east China's Zhejiang Province, at around 17:30 on Sunday, then made its second landfall at Yueqing City in Zhejiang at around 18:40, according to the National Meteorological Center.

A pair of red-billed blue magpies have been spotted brooding eggs and raising chicks in Baokang County, central China's Hubei Province.

The pair built a nest in a bamboo grove and laid four eggs. They took turns incubating the eggs, which hatched after about two weeks. Since then, the magpies have been seen flying back and forth between the nest and the surrounding mountain forests, hunting for worms and searching for fruit to feed their nestlings.

The red-billed blue magpie is widely distributed in China and is recognized as a beneficial species with significant ecological and scientific research value.
