Crude futures settle higher

Oil prices climbed on Friday.

The West Texas Intermediate for September delivery went up 1.15 U.S. dollars, or 1.42 percent, to settle at 82.40 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for October delivery gained 1.45 dollars, or 1.67 percent, to settle at 88.52 dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange.

European stocks closed mixed across the board on Friday.

The United Kingdom's FTSE 100 index dropped 0.21 percent, to close at 10,750.11 points. France's CAC 40 index shed 0.16 percent, to finish at 8,636.80 points. Germany's DAX index climbed 0.53 percent, to end the session at 26,440.31 points.
