Chinese stocks closed mixed on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.19 percent to 3,990.30 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.56 percent lower at 14,622.50 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at around 2.4 trillion yuan (about 353.43 billion U.S. dollars), up from 2.39 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to agriculture, fishery, petrol as well as food and beverage led the gains, while those in sectors including film and television, gaming and brain-computer interface were among the top decliners.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.92 percent on Tuesday to close at 3,705.56 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 0.27 percent higher at 2,104.77 points.
