The China Media Group (CMG), the country's flagship broadcaster, is set to air a special television gala to celebrate the traditional Qixi Festival at 20:00 on Wednesday.
The Qixi Festival, which is also referred to as the Chinese Valentine's Day, falls on the 7th day of the 7th month of the Chinese lunar calendar.
It celebrates the 2,000-year-old legend of the annual dating between the mythological figures of the cowherd and the weaver girl.
On that day, tens of thousands of magpies would fly to the sky to build a bridge for the couple and their twins to walk cross and meet each other.
The gala was filmed mainly in Wuxi City of east China's Jiangsu Province, with one outdoor performance shot in Dongfang City of south China's Hainan Province.
With the "bridge" serving as the key visual symbol and metaphor, the gala intends to connect the thousand-year-old Qixi customs with contemporary life.
Based on the concept of co-creation by all, it integrates Chinese romance with natural beauty.
