Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Indonesian counterpart Sugiono on Friday highlighted the importance of a comprehensive strategic dialogue mechanism in promoting bilateral ties.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at a press conference in Jakarta, where he and Sugiono co-chaired the first Conference of the China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue Mechanism.

"Amid profound changes unseen in a century, the cooperation between the two countries has transcended bilateral bounds, bringing far-reaching positive effects to the region and beyond. The success of this meeting will give important support for deepening the two sides' all-round strategic cooperation and building a high-level community with a shared future. This sends a clear message of solidarity to the world between two major emerging-market nations," said Wang.

Noting that China is an important partner of Indonesia, Sugiono said the conference has opened a new chapter in bilateral ties.

"For Indonesia, the People's Republic of China is a vital partner in national development and in fostering regional stability, peace, and prosperity. Today, Our bilateral relationship enters a stronger new chapter with the launch of this inaugural Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue," he said.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday demanded that Israel immediately halt its new illegal settlement plan in the occupied West Bank, known as the E1 settlement plan, according to Palestinian news agency WAFA on the day.

Abbas said the Israeli E1 settlement will isolate East Jerusalem and fracture Palestinian territory, violating international law, including UN Security Council Resolution 2334.

The UN resolution has deemed Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal and a major obstacle to the two-state solution.

Abbas said the Israeli settlement jeopardizes the establishment of a future independent Palestinian state. He urged the international community to translate diplomatic statements into concrete actions to prevent such settlements and to support the two-state solution.

Israel on Tuesday advanced plans for the illegal E1 settlement project in the West Bank, publishing a tender for 1,234 housing units.

The tender, published online by the Ministry of Construction and Housing, covers part of a wider plan for 3,401 housing units in E1, an area east of Jerusalem.
