The special envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the inauguration of Zambia's president on September 1, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.

"At the invitation of the government of Zambia, President Xi Jinping's Special Envoy and Vice Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Xian Hui will attend the inauguration of President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia in Lusaka on September 1," spokesman Lin Jian told a press briefing in Beijing.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1.57 percent lower at 1,942.91 points on Friday.

The STAR 50 Index, which tracks the 50 largest stocks listed on the board that also meet certain liquidity requirements, closed 1.85 percent lower at 1,662.15 points.

The sci-tech innovation board, commonly known as the STAR Market, was inaugurated in June 2019 at Shanghai Stock Exchange. It is designed to support companies in the high-tech and strategic emerging sectors.
