SED officiates at opening ceremony of new school premises of Tai Po Baptist Public School
The Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin, visited Tai Po Baptist Public School (TPBPS) today (August 29) to officiate at the opening ceremony of its new school premises at Fu Shin Estate. She toured the campus facilities and interacted with teachers and students, witnessing the school's full resumption of normal operation in the upcoming new school year.
Dr Choi said that the relocation of TPBPS to its new premises at Fu Shin Estate is not merely a change of location, but also a significant moment for all teachers and students to reunite and embark on a new page together. The new school premises not only represent a safe, stable and conducive learning environment created through the collaborative efforts of all parties for teachers and students, but also embody the professionalism and perseverance of the principal and staff, the efforts of the students, and the support of parents, fellow schools and the wider community.
To ensure that TPBPS can operate in the new premises at Fu Shin Estate as scheduled in the new school year, the Education Bureau (EDB) proactively took forward the renovation works, and the premises were delivered in accordance with the standards applicable to new school premises, with a view to meeting the school's needs. The works included refurbishment of the external walls, classrooms, toilets and the assembly hall, resurfacing of the ball court, and replacement of electrical units, air-conditioning units and the lift, among other items. The total estimated cost of the aforesaid works and the subsidy for the school to procure additional furniture and equipment (including network and communication facilities) is about $43.6 million. In addition, the EDB has set aside a one-off grant of $1 million for TPBPS to meet expenses related to its relocation to the new premises at Fu Shin Estate for supporting the school's smooth relocation to the new school premises.
Due to the impact of the fire at Wang Fuk Court, the original school premises of TPBPS had to be closed temporarily. The EDB has arranged for TPBPS students to resume face-to-face classes by levels from mid-December 2025 at the premises of Tai Po Government Primary School (TPGPS) and the NTWJWA Christian Remembrance of Grace Primary School (CRGPS) respectively until the end of the 2025/26 school year. To enable all TPBPS students to continue their studies in a stable and continuous learning environment as early as possible, and to further safeguard their well-being, following active discussions between the EDB and the relevant government departments, a vacant school premises of the former Church of Christ in China Kei Ching Primary School at Fu Shin Estate, Tai Po, has been allocated to TPBPS for use as its school premises from the 2026/27 school year.
In light of the special circumstances and needs arising from TPBPS's operation at the two school premises of TPGPS and CRGPS, the EDB has set aside a total of $4 million as additional resources for TPBPS and the two schools to provide appropriate learning and teaching support for teachers and students. In the past school term, TPBPS collaborated with TPGPS and CRGPS respectively on a variety of activities, including values education and reading programmes. These activities not only enriched students' learning experiences, but also deepened exchanges and strengthened ties among the teachers and students of the two schools concerned. Dr Choi is confident that the teachers and students of TPBPS and the two schools will cherish the collaboration during this period. She extended special thanks to the principals and staff of the three schools for their concerted efforts, selfless dedication and extra commitment to ensuring the smooth operation of the schools and maintaining the quality of teaching.
The EDB has set up a working group to actively implement the various arrangements for the relocation of TPBPS to its new school premises. The EDB will continue to maintain close liaison with the school and provide appropriate support as always.
