Chinese yuan strengthens to 6.7809 against USD Tuesday

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 19 pips to 6.7809 against the U.S. dollar Tuesday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.

In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.

International gold and silver prices closed lower on Monday.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold futures for December delivery dropped 1.07 percent to settle at 4,481.50 U.S. dollars per ounce, while silver futures for December delivery lost 1.17 percent to close at 66.990 dollars per ounce.
