Gold, silver futures close lower Monday

International gold and silver prices closed lower on Monday.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold futures for December delivery dropped 1.07 percent to settle at 4,481.50 U.S. dollars per ounce, while silver futures for December delivery lost 1.17 percent to close at 66.990 dollars per ounce.

U.S. dollar ticks down

 

The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.28 percent to 99.428 at 15:00. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro climbed to 1.1616 dollars from 1.158 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.355 dollars from 1.3531 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 159.8 Japanese yen, lower than 160.14 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.8083 Swiss francs from 0.8096 Swiss francs, and it declined to 1.3855 Canadian dollars from 1.3907 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar lost to 9.5767 Swedish kronor from 9.6137 Swedish kronor.
