A symposium marking the 81st anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-1945) and the World Anti-Fascist War was held in Beijing on Thursday.
Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the meeting.
The Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was an important part of the World Anti-Fascist War. With huge national sacrifice, the Chinese people made historic contributions to saving human civilization and safeguarding world peace.
At the symposium, officials from the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, and the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission (CMC), along with representatives of young officers and soldiers with model units from the War of Resistance and representatives of young students, delivered speeches at the event in succession.
They elaborated on the great significance of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and expressed their resolve and confidence to bear in mind history, honor the martyrs, cherish peace, and their lofty aspiration to steadfastly pursue the path of peaceful development.

China will continue to promote high-quality development of sports and has set a target of raising its per capita sports venue area to around 4 square meters by 2030, said Gao Zhidan, director of China's General Administration of Sport, on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference in Beijing, Gao said that during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), China will focus on building itself into a strong country in sports across all sectors, with greater efforts on improving the public service system for nationwide fitness and enhancing the people's health and quality of life.
"By 2030, China aims to raise the per capita sports venue area to about 4 square meters, with the proportion of people regularly participating in physical exercises reaching around 40 percent of the national population. More than 5,000 small and micro sports parks, small fitness centers, multi-purpose sports venues, and public skating rinks will be newly built or renovated. A diversified system of mass sports events and activities will be established, with greater support for popular grassroots-level competitions such as the 'City Super' and 'Village Super' leagues," Gao said.
Gao also briefed the press on plans to reform and improve the management system and operational mechanisms for competitive sports, aiming to deliver outstanding performances on the international stage.
"China will strive to maintain its status as one of the world's top countries in terms of the number of world champions, and aims for outstanding results in major international competitions, including the upcoming Los Angeles Olympic Games and the Winter Olympics in the French Alps region. We will improve the new system for mobilizing resources nationwide for competitive sports, better leverage market mechanisms and social forces in its development, and foster a more open, dynamic and higher-level development landscape. We will build high-performing, well-disciplined national teams," Gao said.
He also expressed expectations for the Chinese delegation's fine performance at the upcoming Asian Games, which will take place in Japan from September to October.
"In just a few days, the Chinese delegation will depart for the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. With the goal of achieving both athletic excellence and exemplary sportsmanship, we will be fully focused, compete with tenacity, and strive for the best results, being determined to deliver a performance worthy of our country and the people," he said.
