The United Kingdom's FTSE 100 index lost 0.10 percent to close at 10,811.66 points. France's CAC 40 index rose 0.14 percent to finish at 8,317.98 points. Germany's DAX index slightly gained 0.004 percent to end the session at 26,007.63 points.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold futures for December delivery dropped 0.84 percent to settle at 4,439.00 U.S. dollars per ounce, while silver futures for December delivery rose 0.38 percent to close at 67.000 dollars per ounce.
