Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), held talks with President of the National Assembly of Angola Adao de Almeida in Beijing on Friday.
Noting that bilateral relations have been elevated to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, Zhao said China is ready to work with Angola to push for new progress in the relationship and make bigger contributions to building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.
China appreciates Angola's commitment to the one-China principle and will firmly support Angola in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security and development interests, Zhao said.
The two countries should enhance political mutual trust, expand pragmatic cooperation, deepen cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, fishery and energy, and create new highlights of collaboration in artificial intelligence and other fields, said Zhao.
He called on both sides to take the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges as an opportunity to strengthen culture and sub-national cooperation.
Both sides need to step up coordination on international affairs, earnestly act on the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, and jointly practice true multilateralism.
The NPC of China stands ready to strengthen dialogue with the National Assembly of Angola to provide legal guarantee to mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, Zhao stressed.
He also extended welcome to Angola to send representatives to attend the NPC-hosted seminar for parliamentarians from African countries, and called on the two sides to conduct exchanges on legislative experiences of green development, social governance, and people's livelihood protection.
De Almeida said Angola is willing to enhance cooperation with China in such areas as energy, economy and trade, and investment, deepen Belt and Road cooperation, and jointly safeguard multilateralism.
He also said that the National Assembly of Angola is willing to enhance exchanges with the NPC. After the talks, they signed a memorandum of understanding between the NPC and the National Assembly of Angola.
