China's economic strength, vast market, population and resources make it a key contributor to the long-term sustainability and future of BRICS, while President Xi Jinping's proposals could create new opportunities for innovation and economic cooperation as China prepares to assume the rotating BRICS presidency in 2027, media representatives attending the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi said.

Chinese President Xi Jinping called on BRICS countries at the 18th BRICS Summit to take the lead in advancing innovation-driven development, upholding peace and stability, facilitating mutual learning among civilizations, and reforming and improving global governance.

During the first phase of the summit on Saturday, Xi announced that China will take over the rotating BRICS presidency in 2027.

"First of all, I want to congratulate China. President Xi Jinping announced that next year China will be hosting the 19th BRICS Summit. So, I'm looking forward to that. And then having China here in the BRICS, it sends a message that, okay, we have one of the biggest economy here. They have the population, they have the market, they have the resources. So we know that BRICS has come to stay. BRICS is sustainable, is not just something that is built on competition, but something built on sustainability. So I believe that China plays a huge role in the sustainability of BRICS," said Sarafina Christopher, a journalist with the News Agency of Nigeria.

"Kazakhstan has good relationships with other BRICS member countries. As a journalist from Kazakhstan, I hope and believe Xi Jinping's proposal has good opportunities for all of us, because innovation, economical projects will make better our lives. And I support this program. I think next year when BRICS will meet in China, you can see more good projects," said Gaziza Uzak, head of Nazarmedia.kz, a Kazakhstani media outlet.

Over the past two decades, China has hosted three BRICS summits, each marking a new milestone in the group's evolution by expanding the scope of cooperation and strengthening the representation of the Global South.
